SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. -- The Swampscott Big Blue scored four touchdowns, one in every quarter, to defeat the Salem Witches, 28-7, at Bertram Field in Salem. The game featured two teams heading in opposite directions in the standings.

Swampscott started its scoring halfway through the first quarter when Frank Legere scored a 10-yard touchdown. Their extra point attempt was successful to make the score 7-0.

Salem got on the scoreboard when Edwin Alcantara scored a twoyard touchdown with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter. Their extra point attempt was successful to tie the game at seven.

The Big Blue scored its second touchdown quarterback Mike Walsh (pictured above left) passed the ball to wide receiver Nick Meninno with 4:59 left in the second quarter. Their extra point put Swampscott ahead 14-7.

Swampscott extended its lead over the Witches to 21-7 when Evan Rhodes scored a four yard touchdown with 5:33 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Swampscott’s Walsh hit the end zone with 6:16 left in the game to put the game out of reach for the Witches.

“Our linemen did an outstanding job with the offense and defense tonight,” said Swampscott running back Evan Rhodes. “This was an important win for us, especially since we lost (to Malden) last week.”

With the win, Swampscott improved to 6-1. Salem, which lost its fourth straight home game, fell to 1-6.
