Keandre Stanton scored 29 points to help the Lynn English Bulldogs boys basketball team blow out the Beverly Panthers, 91-69, at the Henry Cabot Lodge Field House at Beverly High School. This game featured two teams who will be playing in the state tournament.
The Bulldogs, who are one win away from clinching the Northeast Conference title for the sixth consecutive year, dominated this game from start to finish and took advantage of all the opportunities that were given to them. They scored the first eight points of the game and were ahead by as much as 13 points in the opening quarter. Stevie Collins scored four of his 16 points to start the scoring for the Bulldogs. They were ahead 20-9 after the first quarter.
Lynn English continued to dominate in the second quarter. They scored the first eight points of the second quarter and were ahead by as much as 18 points. Fred Hogan scored eight of his 19 points in the second quarter. However, Beverly did not give up and started playing much better. Ty Suggs, who scored the game winning basket when these two teams met in December, and Chris Keaton each scored four points for the Panthers in the second quarter. The Bulldogs were ahead 38-24 at halftime.
The second half proved to be much of the same for the Bulldogs. They put the game out of reach for the Panthers in the third quarter as Stanton scored 15 of his 29 points in the third. At the end of the third quarter, Lynn English was ahead 67-44.
The Bulldogs stayed ahead of the Panthers by more than 20 points in the fourth quarter and finished the game with all their reserves in the lineup and a 22-point victory.
This game was one of our biggest wins of the season, especially since we lost to them in a close game a few weeks ago,” said Stanton, who plans on playing basketball at a prep school next year. “We want to win the conference title for the sixth straight year.”
