Salem, Mass. -- Drew Lauria scored two touchdowns in the first half as the visiting Revere Patriots beat the Salem Witches, 14-0, at Bertram Field in Salem.

The scoring started when Revere’s Lauria scored a six yard touchdown with 5:47 left in the first quarter. Jeff Simbert’s extra point was successful to make the game 7-0.

Revere’s second touchdown occurred when Lauria scored a one yard touchdown with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter. Simbert’s kicked the extra point to extend Revere’s lead to 14-0.

Both teams played tough defense in the second half, as neither team hit the scoreboard after halftime. The Witches had several scoring chances throughout the game, but Revere’s defense shut them down.

“The offensive line definitely helped us win tonight,” said Revere’s Tom Portrait. “Drew (Lauria) and I capitalized well to shut down Salem’s offense.

“Our defense definitely played exceptionally well, which was a key factor in helping us win tonight,” Lauria said.

With the win, Revere improved to 3-1 while Salem dropped to 1-3.

Revere will play Cambridge Rindge and Latin next week before a big match-up with Peabody on October 14. Peabody is 3-0 and matches up with rival Beverly next weekend.
