Running Away With It at Pinkerton
If you are looking for the best running game in New Hampshire you do not have look any further than the state’s best team in Pinkerton Academy. After defeating the top team in D2, Bishop Guertin, in week one the Astros took apart one of the best teams in D1 this year in Nashua South.
Their three headed running attack was simply amazing on the day as Emmitt Smith ’12 ran for 200 yards and scored four touchdowns, Kevin Davies ’12 ran for his second straight 100 yard game with 151 yards and 1 TD, and Manny Latimore ‘14 rushed for 107 yards and 1TD.
The three running backs have had a great start to the year but much of the credit has to go to the massive offensive line led by tackles Jesse Trottier ’12 (pictured below) and William Consavage ’12. Both tackles have big time college football size and are mobile and athletic.
New England Prep Stars Live Coverage
We were at three games this week and will also be at three games this upcoming weekend. Below are recaps with links to more substantive posts from our game coverage.
Chelmsford Posts 54 points on Westford Academy
On Friday we were at Chelmsford to take in the home opener for the Chelmsford Lions. The Lions would take down the Westford Academy Grey Ghosts 54-34. Despite a close first half the Lions ran away with the game in the second half as their defense stepped up to shut down an aggressive and strong ground attack from WA. Read more on the game here along with video of the biggest play of the game, a 69 yard touchdown strike from Pat McLaughlin '12 to Vinny Maniscalco '12.
Wakefield Gets Early Edge in Middlesex League
Wakefield got out to an early 20-7 start despite trailing in the game 7-0 and held on to defeat Lexington 20-13. Wakefield recieved strong running games from Dan Cardillo ’13 and Reading transfer Zack Bates ’12. Read more about the game here from correspondent Eitan Tye.
Lincoln Sudbury shuts out Tewksbury
In the first game of the 2011 season Lincoln-Sudbury traveled to Tewksbury and defeated the Redmen 28-0 behind three rushing touchdowns from running back Chris Giorgio '13 (pictured above left).
The Lincoln-Sudbury defense was too tough for the Redmen on Saturday and their offense was lead by junior running backs Giorgio, Brian Carroll '13 and senior Dan Cellucci '12. L-S also got a strong game from their senior QB and DCL Large reigning MVP Matt Cahill '12 as he found his favorite target Jack Harris '12 six times on the day for 64 yards.
Tewksbury received strong efforts from seniors WR/DB Frank McLaughlin, QB/LB Kevin Saunders and RB/DB Chris Bettano.
Check out our Photo gallery of the game here.
McGlaughlin made the play of the day on a leaping interception that we have marked as our photo of the week for this past week.
