Monday Week 3 Football Review: 9 points of interest in Massachusetts

- Xaverian and Brockton was as advertised! The two best teams in Eastern Massachusetts went to battle in a double overtime thriller that Xaverian won on a field goal by Jules Murphy. - Methuen upset Billerica 36-26 on Friday night. Methuen quarterback Cal Carroll starred for the visitors as Methuen handed Billerica their first loss on the season. The depth of the MVC is unquestioned this year. Read more about the game at the Billerica Minuteman
- Chelmsford continued to dominate defensively as it has not allowed an offesnive touchdown this season. The combination of line play, linebacker play and secondary play is as good as anyone in the state right now. Read more about the game at Chelmsford Patch
- Chelmsford defensive back Zach Hayes took a recruiting trip to St. Anselm's Saturday.
- Andover squeaked by Tewksbury in an offesnive battle 39-32. Tewksbury quarterback Sean Connolly continues to boast impressive numbers and is knocking on the door of some Tewksbury records. Read more about the game on Tewksbury Patch
- Speaking of impressive numbers Barnstable quarterback D.J. Crook leads all passers with 14 touchdown tosses through three games. Crook will take on Everett this Saturday, at 1:30 in Everett, in what should prove to be the game of the week. New England prep Stars will be there for the action.
- Gloucester is simply destroying teams to start the season. The Fisherman are led by Chris Unis, younger brother of former Gloucester and Boston College start Jim Unis.
- We keep talking about Concord-Carlisle running back George Craan among the best in the state but Newton South Head Coach Ted Dalicandro agrees. The junior running back ran for 201 yards and four touchdowns Friday night as Concord-Carlisle defeated Newton South 28-7. Read more about the game in the Newton Tab.
- In the opening weekend for ISL teams Governor's Academy defeated Thayer Academy 34-13. The game was especially meaningful as the 2010 season has been dedicated to GA alum Justin Marshall who died tragically in June of this year.
