SALEM, Mass. ---

Will Quigley (pictured left) scored four touchdowns to help the Marblehead Magicians beat the Salem Witches, 35-7, on a cold night at Bertram Field in Salem.

After a scoreless first quarter Marblehead started the scoring when Quigley scored a 31-yard touchdown with 4:40 left in the second quarter to put the Magicians ahead 6-0. Quigley then scored another touchdown when 1:30 left in the second quarter. Marblehead’s 2-point conversion attempt was successful to extend their lead to 14-0.

Salem got on the scoreboard when Christian Dunston threw a 45-yard pass to Shakir White to cut Marblehead’s lead in half to 14-7.

After an important timeout by Marblehead with seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Magicians extended their lead when quarterback Ian Maag threw a 15-yard pass to Zac Cuzner in the last second of the first half. Christian Flores’s extra point made the score 21-7 Marblehead at halftime.

In the third quarter Marblehead put the game out of reach of Salem when Quigley scored his third touchdown of the game on a 6-yard run with 3:30 remaining. Flores’ extra point extended the Magicians lead to 28-7.

The only touchdown of the fourth quarter occurred when Quigley hit the end zone on a 4-yard run with 7:30 remaining in the game. Flores kicked another extra point to make the score 35-7.

“This was an important game for us tonight, especially since we are competing for a Northeast Conference title,“ said the senior captain Quigley after the game. “Even though Salem’s record is not very good, our coaches make sure we are well prepared for every game.”

When asked if the cold weather affected the players, Quigley said: “We are used to the cold since it is like that every season, but sometimes it is difficult for our bodies to get used to.”

The Magicians improved to 5-2 on the season while the Witches fell to 1-7.
