LYNN, Mass. --
PJ Dorsey’s touchdown at the end of the third quarter was all the Lynn English Bulldogs needed to defeat the Malden Golden Tornadoes, 10-0, at Manning Field.
After a scoreless first half, both teams inched closer to the scoreboard in the third quarter. Lynn English broke the scoreless tie with seconds remaining in the third quarter when Dorsey scored a seven yard touchdown. Lucas Harris and Jeremy Lessard capitalized for the two point conversion to put the Bulldogs’ ahead 8-0. Lynn English then scored on a two point safety in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 10-0.
It was the defense, however, that proved to be the difference maker in the game. Malden had many key scoring opportunities, especially in the fourth quarter. Malden quarterback Jake Martino threw several complete passes late in the game, but the Bulldogs’ stellar defense kept the Golden Tornadoes out of the end zone.
“Our defense was working the whole game,” said Lynn English quarterback Jermaine Kelly. “Malden has a lot of offensive talent and we were able to shut them out.”
Even though the Bulldogs defense stood out, Kelly believes the teams offense could have been better.
“I think our offense could have been much better tonight,” said Kelly. “We cannot win every game scoring only 10 points.”
With the win, Lynn English ended their two game losing streak and improve to 3-2. Meanwhile, Malden ended its two game winning streak and slip to 2-3.
“This win was very important and might be the turning point in the season,” said Kelly. “We lost two tough games to Beverly and Swampscott so it’s nice to get back on track.
