Duxbury takes the battle of Mass and NH
Posted on May 28th 2010
The best in New Hampshire public school lax went up against "arguably" the best in Massachusetts Thursday night at Tufts University in Medford, MA. The game did not disappoint as Duxbury defeated BG 10-9 in Overtime on a beautiful goal by Attackman Paul Hellar '12 on a feed from Midfielder and Captain John Riccardi '10.
Duxbury started the game off hot and took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. BG then roared back and to cut it to a 6-4 Duxbury lead at the half. BG faceoff man and offensive specialist Matthew Bayne '10 was the steadying force behind the BG comeback and Attackman Jack Krzyston '10 provided the offensive punch (3g).
The second half was a back and forth affair with BG controlling the possessions for the majority of play. With Duxbury up 8-7 entering the fourth quarter Bayne scored the game tying goal for BG. Duxbury Midfielder Bryan Barry '11 came back with a nice dodge and score to get the lead back 9-8. That lead did not last long as BG Midfielder Alex Eaton '12 (2g) made scored on a great individual effort. Eaton's goal tied the game at 9-9 where it would remain at the end of regulation.
The four minute overtime was ll Duxbury as they controlled the ball off the faceoff, moved the ball around and eventually Heller ended it. This was a great way to end a great regular season. The best in Massachusetts and the best in New Hampshire battled and left it all out on the field. We are looking forward to seeing both these very talented teams make deep runs in their respective state tournaments.
