NASHUA, NH --- In the second Pool B game on Tuesday Bishop Guertin (4-0) faced off against Milford (1-2). The game featured an impressive team effort from Bishop Guertin as three players scored in double figures in a 65-29 win. Sophomore guard Jamie Sherburne (14 points), junior center Meghan Green (12 points) and junior forward Nicole Hayner (12 points) led the way for the undefeated Cardinals.

Milford junior point guard Dina Pitsas led her squad with 19 of the Spartan's 29 total points on the day.

BG's height advantage turned out to play a major role in the rebounding department, as they had numerous possessions resulting in three or four second chances opportunities. After building a comfortable lead midway through the second quarter BG elected to rest all five starters. The bench came in and held on to the lead as BG finished the first half up 27 points.

Pitsas (pictured below) scored all 10 points for the Spartans in the third quarter but BG maintained a tough half-court defense throughout that prohibited Milford from closing the gap any further than 29 points for the rest of the game.

The storyline for this year’s Cardinal's team is its youth. BG only has one senior on their roster. For that reason Green and the rest of the juniors must adapt to those circumstances and embrace the leadership that has been bestowed upon them.

“I definitely feel like a senior,” admitted Green. “I’m a captain this year and I’m an upperclassman. It feels like I have a big role on the team and I’m a leader on the team.”

Green puts pressure on herself to perform well and help the team earn wins, however she believes that the key to her team’s success is that it has plenty of balanced talent.

“I always feel like I have to play well,” said Green, “If I don’t, everyone steps up, and that’s the good thing about my team. We focus on running the ball, playing well together, and passing as much as possible."

With new head coach and local schoolboy legend Scott Hazelton at the helm for the 2011-12 season, the Cardinals are looking to solidify their young nucleus in order to achieve success in this season and beyond.

“Next year is going to be pretty much the exact same team,” added Green, “so that’s really exciting.”
