Posted on December 20th 2011

With all the impressive offensive stars in New England this year we went to the other side of the ball in 2011 to recognize our 2011 New England Prep Stars Player of the Year.

Linebacker Tim Joy '12 led Chelmsford High School (MA) to the 2011 MIAA playoffs this season and an MVC Division 1 League Championship.

Joy and the Lions went 10-2 this season, with their only losses coming to BC High in the regular and post-season. The Lions swept the MVC and also defeated Acton-Boxborough and Westford Academy in non-league games.

The talented middle linebacker had 155 tackles (eight for loss), three sacks and one interception. Over the past two seasons,Joy has recorded 286 tackles (21 for loss), five sacks and three interceptions. For his career Joy totaled over 400 tackles over his career for the Lions.

Joy also led the way on many offensive drives from his tight end position as well as in the backfield. Joy caught 10 balls for 183 yards and 1 TD this season.

"It was awesome to win the MVC this year after the past three years not going exactly how we wanted," Joy told New England Prep Stars. "This group of guys that I played with this year worked hard the entire off-season and  it really paid off on the field. The best part was how close our senior class was and it felt great to accomplish something so great with my teammates who have been playing football together since we were 8 years old."

Joy was a two-time team captain and three time All-MVC member. This season he was named the Co-MVP of the MVC and received ESPN Boston's inaugural Defensive MVP award.

"My career at Chelmsford High was one that I  am extremely proud of," said Joy. "From a personal stand point I was an all-conference player for three years, all-state for two years and player of the year in the MVC for my senior year. It was also a pleasure to play with a great group of guys throughout my career. Most of them are my best friends and we will never forget what we did on the field together."

Joy also gave praise to the coaching staff for helping him during his time on and off the gridiron for CHS.

"No player could ask for better coaches," said Joy. "Every single one of them helped me so much and just made the whole experience an amazing one."

When asked about his fondest memory of playing football at Chelmsford High School Joy highlighted the 2011 season.

"My fondest memory has to my my whole senior season, playing with my best friends and winning the MVC."

Joy will continue his football and academic career next season down the road for the Eagles at Boston College.
